Workshop Syllabus
RV SHEETMETAL WORKSHOP SCHEDULE
The cost of the workshop is $275. It's a full two day course, the first morning we have a bit of classroom time and Tom talks about basic sheet metal, tools, workshop safety, surface prep and priming. We then get started on a Vans practice airfoil project. Everyone gets to work on their own project. Then we break for a nice homecooked lunch then go back to work. We will work until 5:00 then resume on Sunday morning. The practice project gives you experience drilling, deburring, riveting, back riveting, bucking, countersinking, dimpling ect. We have all the tools for you to try out so you can decide which ones you like best and that will help you make your decision on what tools are best for you that you will want to purchase to do your kit.
Sunday morning we will continue the practice project (all complete with demonstrations) until lunch time. When everyone has completed their project we then have a couple more hours of classroom. We talk about aircraft hardware, FAA inspections and licensing, rigging and test flying, painting and insurance. We will answer all your questions throughout the 2 day class. We have an RV 7 that is nearing completion in the shop and an RV8 that is here for firewall forward and final assembly. There is also our completed RV6A for you to droll over. This is a full two days of learning and when you leave we do not abandon you, if you have questions all you need to do is call or email and we will help you in any way that we can.
We also have the builders assistance. Many of our students decide to come back for the empennage workshop and complete their tail one on one with us. We work with you side by side each day teaching you even more tricks that we have learned over the years.
